Göktaşlar Et Acquired a Global Giant in the Live Animal Transportation Sector
Gaziantep-based Göktaşlar Et took a significant global step in the live animal transport sector by acquiring a shipping company—one of the world’s largest in terms of live animal transport capacity—from Australia-based Wellard for 82 million Australian dollars (51 million USD). Göktaşlar Meat – Meat Products Processing and Trade Limited Company was founded in 1998 by Şerif Göktaş on 84 dönüm of land. Operating in the meat sector until 2006, the company expanded its operations at the end of 2008 with a modern livestock facility built on 500 dönüm of land, capable of housing 73,000 head of livestock. Today, Göktaşlar Et has become a major player in the global meat trade, exporting red meat and live animals to 18 countries.
The shipping company acquired by Göktaşlar Et will continue to operate under the name Meteors Shipping. With this transaction, Göktaşlar Et aims to further strengthen its position in international markets by enhancing its logistics capabilities in the live animal trade.
